Sprague 714P capacitors featuring tight tolerances are particularly well suited for applications in computer hardware such as precision clock circuits, tuned circuits, integrator circuits, surface wave filters and in applications requiring exceptional capacitance stability, high insulation resistance, low dielectric absorption and a low dissipation factor. The functional characteristics of the 714P capacitors are similar to those of polystyrene capacitors with the advantage of a wider operating temperature range, from -55 to +105 °C. 714P capacitors have the lowest dissipation factor of all film capacitors
having the same temperature characteristics. Their typical
temperature coefficient is 300 ppm/°C over a range of
— 55 to + 105 °C.

Standard capacitance values ​​are supplied with tolerances of
±2.5% and 1%.

714P capacitors are protected against moisture by an outer winding of flame-retardant film with epoxy caps at the ends. The epoxy resin adheres to the wound film as well as to the lead wires. This design provides a compact capacitor with smaller dimensions and reduced weight compared to capacitors with a resin-dipped metal case of comparable characteristics.
